Kanye West is dead serious about running for president in 2020: 'I've got a lot of research to do'

Rihanna Reacts to Kanye West's VMA Speech and Presidential Plans

Although Kanye West did admit to smoking "a little something" before his epic speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last month -- in which he shockingly announced he's planning to run for president in 2020 -- he now confirms his lofty political plans are no joke.

"Definitely," the 38-year-old rapper tells Vanity Fair about running in 2020. "I didn't approach that because I thought it would be fun. It wasn't like, 'Oh, let's go rent some jet skis in Hawaii.' No, the exact opposite. I sit in clubs and I'm like, 'Wow, I've got five years before I go and run for office and I've got a lot of research to do, I've got a lot of growing up to do.'"

Kanye says his creative background is exactly what the White House needs.

"The whole point is to have someone [in office] that's creative, that's around amazing creatives," he explains. "This is my theory: I think the world can be helped through design, so it's very important that I stay around creative, forward thinkers."

"I hate politics. I'm not a politician at all," he stresses. "I care about the truth and I just care about human beings. I just want everyone to win, that's all I can say, and I think we can."

And Kanye already has an unconventional campaign plan.

"When I run for president, I'd prefer not to run against someone," he says. "I would be like, 'I want to work with you.'"

"And I think all the people running right now have something that each of the others needs," he adds, specifically referring to presidential hopeful Ben Carson as "the most brilliant guy." "But the idea of this separation and this gladiator battle takes away from the main focus that the world needs help, and the world needs all the people in a position of power or influence to come together."

Earlier this month, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest jokingly reacted to a possible Kanye run. While speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Earnest said he was "looking forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat."

Surprisingly, the always controversial Donald Trump also had nothing but nice things to say about Kanye's political aspirations. "He said very nice things about me in the past, and he knows my daughter a little bit, Ivanka," Trump told Rolling Stone. "He's actually a different kind of person than people think, he's a nice guy. I hope to run against him someday."

Hillary Clinton, however, would clearly not. "I would only ask him if I'm running for reelection to wait," Clinton told Ellen DeGeneres.

I got my selfie!!! I really loved hearing her speak & hearing her goals for our country! #HillaryForPresident

But we already know one loyal supporter who's totally on board with Kanye for president -- his frequent collaborator, Rihanna.

"I mean people are voting for [Donald] Trump," the "B**ch Better Have My Money" singer told ET late last month. "Who wouldn't vote for Kanye?!"
