Fortune cookie numbers land Florida man $10 million jackpot
Fortune cookies are usually just fun, but the treat truly gave one Florida man good luck.
66-year-old Richard Davis won the $10 million jackpot in the Florida Lottery by playing the numbers he found on the back of one of those fortunes.
In fact, he told state lottery officials that he only plays once in awhile, but when he does, he tends to submit the same sets of numbers he has collected during five separate visits to a North Carolina restaurant.
After he realized his numbers matched, he says he "checked and rechecked the ticket several times over the next few days."
Eventually, he and his winning ticket made their way to the main lottery office in Tallahassee where he elected to have a lump-sum payout of slightly more than $7 million.
The Publix store where he bought the ticket will receive a $50,000 bonus.
