Cancer survivors share their inspiring stories

Updated

There's nothing more devastating than getting a cancer diagnosis. The battle is long, painful and challenging and can often become incredibly discouraging. That's why the feeling of beating cancer is one of the most empowering, beautiful and freeing feelings in the world. Remission means more than no longer having cancer, it means getting one's life back. Several cancer survivors took to Whisper, the popular app that provides an anonymous platform for people to share their most honest thoughts, to share their inspiring stories.

Beating cancer is a huge and inspiring life accomplishment:

4 years ago today i beat cancer. My hair is finally back to its previous length and i have never been so happy in my life. It is the proudest moment of my life

Getting the good news is one of the best feelings in the world:

Today I found out I'm in remission a and there's no sign of any cancer cells anymore! I haven't smiled this much in so long.

There's nothing as special as a second chance at life:

A year ago today, I was expected to be dead. Now I'm cancer free. The beauty of science...

It's the most empowering feeling:

I was diagnosed with stage 4 leukemia 3 years ago. I'm 17 and today I found out I'm cancer free! I. Am. Invincible. :)

It makes people appreciate those always in their corners:

I'm cancer free So my mom drove me 8 hours to see the ocean for the first time. Thank you mom for everything. This day I will never forget

Recovery is a long process, but it's amazing to finally get there:

After I was diagnosed with cancer, I gained twenty pounds. I've lost twenty pounds since I beat it. Now I'm only ten pounds away from my goal weight. I'm proud of myself.

It makes people love themselves and appreciate their lives:

I beat cancer but going through the whole thing has boosted my confidence in every way.

It changes the way people see the world:

I had cancer as a child and I'm so grateful to be alive. My perspective on the world changed for the better.

It's always great to see the good guys win:

I had breast cancer and I stayed in the hospital for over a year. I beat cancer and now I'm a true winner. #f***youcancer

Once in remission, cancer survivors can finally start being themselves again:

Having cancer ruined my life. Finding out I am now in remission, gave me my life back.

Although it's sometimes tempting to give up, beating cancer is well worth the exhausting battle:

It's been 3 years since I'm cancer free! I'm so proud. Don't give up, I never did.

Because it lets people live the lives they were always meant to have:

My last chemo treatment was today. I survived breast cancer, and get to see my daughter grow up. <3
