J.Crew's familiar style staples made fresh for 2016 spring/summer collection

Jenna Lyons, president and executive creative director of J.Crew, has the unparalleled skill of dreaming up a trendy collection without necessarily infusing it with the trends of any given moment. J.Crew's spring/summer 2016 collection gave us a sense of comfort and familiarity while still providing the excitement of something new. While the brand consistently sticks to its roots, Lyons' unique eye for detail adds flare and charm to a classic yet refreshing collection.

Lyons dared to overdo J.Crew's style favorites in a bold way that made them seem brand new. By pairing three different gingham patterns in one outfit, adding rainbow vibes to nautical stripes, mixing printed swim shorts with leather sneakers and fusing suit jackets with jogger pants, she turned our favorite J.Crew staples into the face of preppy-chic spring and summer trends.

Lyons herself noted the abundance of J.Crew classics within the collection. Her aim was to maintain the brand's evergreen voice while adding subtle tweaks. She said of the collection:

"There are certain things within our fashion 'DNA' that we believe in and stand for - stripes, chambray, woven shirting fabrics, casual-ized sequins, ginghams, madras and tailoring. We highlight these ideas throughout the collections, adding a spin of quirk and sophistication. We like to think that J.Crew style should defy time and trends. With J.Crew style, the one common element is timelessness - the timelessness of a perfect blazer or a crisp white shirt - it is at once familiar and made fresh by changing the context."

We look forward to seeing preppy yet sophisticated fashionistas sporting the collection's best looks - from print-on-print ensembles to double breasted trench coats and bucket hats - come spring.
