While working towards a healthy diet is always a good thing, sometimes you may be working TOO hard to cut out foods your body actually needs. While cutting out foods like chips and cake certainly does more good than harm -- not all foods are better off separate from your diet.

For example -- while you may think nuts are extremely fattening, they're actually a great source of protein. These, and other surprising foods are technically better off part of your meal routine and trust us when we say your body agrees.

1) Eggs

It's been said eggs are bad for cholesterol and should be avoided but in reality, they are full of B12 and are particularly important if you eat a mostly plant based diet.

2) Dairy

Many people completely cut milk and cheese from their diets when trying to get healthy but both are a great source of calcium and potassium.

3) Pasta

People say you gain weight from eating pasta, but you actually gain weight from eating TOO MUCH pasta. Keep it as a side dish and avoid creamy sauces for a yummy, healthy meal.

4) White potatoes

A good source of fiber and potassium, and not high in calories.

5) Bread

Make sure your bread is a source of whole grains and you're good to go! It will be rich in protein, fiber, and other important nutrients.
