Mother throws knife, threatens to set daughter on fire over breakfast dispute

A Pennsylvania mother landed herself behind bars this weekend after she allegedly threw a steak knife at her 12-year-old daughter and threatened to set her on fire during breakfast.

The fight between Adeline E. Steede and her daughter broke out on Sunday morning, according to the Observer-Reporter. The argument revolved around what the daughter wanted to eat for breakfast.

The daughter told Chartiers Township police that her mother came after her with a steak knife before throwing it at her. The 12-year-old then reportedly picked up the knife and her mother chased her around the house trying to get it back from the girl.

According to court documents, the girl then ran outside. She told police her mother chased her with a lighter while threatening to "light [her] on fire."

A local police officer found the knife on the back porch when he arrived on the scene but could not locate the lighter. The father claimed he did not witness any of the alleged events but overheard the fight and separated his wife and daughter.

The 34-year-old faces charges of simple assault, harassment and endangering the welfare of children. She was arraigned in court and released from Washington County Jail on Monday after posting bond. Steede is expected in court on October 7th for a preliminary hearing.
