Maddie & Tae Perform 'Girl In a Country Song'

Get ready country music fans!

If you somehow missed Maddie Marlow and Tae Dye's breakout hit "Girl in a Country Song," don't fret since the two country cuties, who make up the duo Maddie & Tae, are officially about to take Nashville by storm with their debut album, "Start Here."

The vivacious pair brings energy to country music that we haven't quite seen since Taylor Swift's first hit "Tim McGraw" in 2006, and now that Swifty (who has their same record label!) has moved into pop, it's refreshing to see two women embrace songwriting and country music with that same young spunk and spirit.

Don't believe us? Take their new song "Sierra," which Maddie, 20, penned after one-too-many tearful days at high school with a bully, who was indeed, named Sierra.

"My whole senior year it had gotten really bad. Sierra had bullying me since sophomore year – or really since I knew her – and bullying all my friends and she was very sneaky," Maddie told AOL in an exclusive interview. "It had been like the fifth time she had sent me home crying saying things like I wasn't good enough, I wasn't pretty enough, I was never going to make it – you know all that crap."

"You know that passive-aggressive, back-handed compliment type of thing? That was the person that Sierra was," Tae, 19, chimed in.

"In high school, you think it is the end of the world and that all of these people hate you," Maddie continued. "So I go home and I do the best thing that I know to do when I am upset, which is write songs. I grabbed my guitar, and I was crying and I wrote the first verse."

The duo never planned to actually release the song, but the reaction to their slam tune mean girls was so good that they had to put in on their album.

Sierra wasn't so happy about that decision.

"[Sierra] heard it – and she texted me and said, I cannot believe you did that," Maddie revealed. "She has since texted like 'I'm so proud of you' so I think she's trying to – you know [save face], but' I don't hold grudges. The main point of that song was that we have all gone through something like that."

At the root of it, both Maddie and Tae are in the business of telling stories and they say negativity doesn't really set them back – even when it comes to rude fans.

"We don't get much negative feedback, but the occasional tweet here and there. We once got a tweet from this guy "Dan" and it said 'I hope someone introduces you two ladies to a chloroform-soaked rag,'" Tae said before rebounding with some of their endless wit and positivity. "We were like, 'Hey you're really creative – you should use that for something else.' The time that it took him to make those tweets ... we just feel like the negative stuff is just more comical than anything."

Let's face it though; Maddie and Tae hardly have time to pay attention to the naysayers. The pair's debut single, "Girl in a Country Song" shot to the top of the charts in record time and it was considered one of the best girl anthems of the year, as they jokingly poked fun at the way women are often portrayed in country music videos.

"'Girl in a Country Song' is definitely written from the perspective of two young women, but at our concerts there are grown men singing the words. Dads really love it because they all say, 'We don't want our daughters to feel like they have to look this stereotypical way to feel beautiful,'" Maddie dished. "What made it move so quickly was that so many people were like this hasn't been said before."

"It felt like it all caught up with us at our No. 1 party. Everyone who made our dreams come true was there – our whole team, our families, our friends, our co-writers – everyone. We were just hot messes. We were bawling crying," Tae divulged of their big night.

Their emotions and sincerity are what will very likely make them even bigger successes. Their latest single "Fly" is already soaring up the charts, meaning Maddie and Tae are about to start something very big.

Check out their new album "Start Here" when it hits shelves Friday.
