Mother and baby die after doctors fail to remove baby's head from womb

After 32-year-old Geeta Devi went into labor on Saturday night, the delivery went so wrong that the doctors ended up removing only the baby's body during delivery, leaving the deceased baby's head inside Devi's Womb. Sadly, Devi died when doctors tried to remove the head from her womb.

The woman was taken to a hospital in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, northern India when she first went into labor. However, after doctors failed the remove the baby's head due to lack of resources, she was sent to Bareilly hospital. At this government hospital, doctors managed to remove the baby's head but were unable to save Devi's life. Devi's husband Hemant, 40, said:

"It is the fault of the doctors. First they removed the body of my baby - leaving the head inside - and then they told us to take my wife to another hospital. They just left us. They could not save her."


According to Deputy Superintendent of Shahjahanpur Police, Officer K G Yadav, the hospital was not equipped to successfully deliver the baby after complications occurred. He said:

"The hospital didn't have sufficient medical arrangements and hence the mother was referred to another hospital. The doctors were not capable of handling this tragic situation and it is due to their negligence the infant's head was left inside the mother. The family doesn't know the names of the doctors so we are currently looking for the doctors who were on duty at the time. An investigation has started and once the names of the doctors responsible come out, strict action will be taken. The District Magistrate of Shahjahanpur, Shubhra Saxena, has confirmed the investigation into the horrific negligence."


Once the police determine the names of the doctors responsible for the deaths of both the baby and the mother, the doctors will be investigated for negligence.
