Subtle sparks fly between Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in the first teaser for Todd Haynes' lesbian drama "Carol."

The film, which was nominated for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival where it won two other awards, follows a department store clerk (Mara) falling for an older, married woman (Blanchett).

Kyle Chandler ("Bloodline") co-stars in the 1950s-set drama based on Patricia Highsmith's novel "The Price of Salt." According to TheWrap's Steve Pond, the Weinstein Company's Nov. 20 release is " both an exquisite miniature and a majestic love story."

"Depicting an era in which same-sex relationships were hidden (for an era in which they're headed for a likely Supreme Court endorsement), Haynes keeps things quiet and elegant, but with an edge of tension that runs through the early scenes," Pond wrote in his Cannes review. "Blanchett and Mara engage in what might almost be flirting, if flirtation were even an option in polite society.
