A headless body was found at this popular beach destination

Updated

The torso of a human body was found at the UK's famous Blackpool Beach Sunday morning by a fisherman. The gender of the corpse has not yet been identified.

The fisherman, 60-year-old Michael Cartwright, found the body on the shore at Bispham in Blackpool, Lancs. He said:

"It was like a torso. I'm not sure if it was male or female. It was next to the sea wall. I spotted it and asked a young lady to call the police. A dog walker also helped. We did not want any children going past to see it or for any dogs to go near the body."

Cartwright suggested that the body seems to have been in the sea for a long period of time. Derek Lowde, 46, witnessed the chaos caused by the event as he was fishing along the same part of the coastline. He said:

"Officers were here until at least 10.30am. They had to be fairly quick as the tide was coming in. A black van – presumably a private ambulance – came to pick the body up."

While a police spokesperson has confirmed that the finding was a human body, he said that officers are still investigating in hopes of finding the identity of the deceased person.
