The Most Livable City in the World Is...

And the most livable city in the world is ... not in the United States! And most of the others in the top 10 are halfway across the globe! But according to Metropolis Magazine, Toronto Canada is the most livable city in the world.

So what can Americans learn from these foreign cities to make ours more livable? The magazine's editors based Toronto's livability, and all other cities on the list, on elements that improve your quality of life, like housing costs, amenities, culture, walkability and pleasures you get from living there.

Toronto is at the top because of its growing population, and urban revitalization, where instead of demolishing old housing blocks, they're renewing them. Toronto pulling the top spot isn't surprising considering the Economist also named it the best overall city to live earlier this year. Tokyo is the second most livable thanks to its transportation, boasting the busiest train station on earth, averaging over 3.6 million passengers a day. Tokyo is also the safest city in the world, despite its population. Helsinki, Finland comes in third for its accessibility, green space, and 745 miles of bike paths.

But Americans are doing some things right. Both Indianapolis and Pittsburgh made the top 10 list for their landscape and preservation. And their football teams aren't too shabby either!
