Philippe Coutinho netted an absolutely silly goal in Sunday's match against Stoke City. With time winding down and the match knotted at nil-nil, the Liverpool midfielder reared up and fired a rocket shot from outside the box into the top right corner.

The go-ahead goal prevented Liverpool from being the latest top-tier team to suffer embarrassment during the EPL's opening weekend. On Saturday, Chelsea kissed its sister with Swansea City, ending the match at 2-2 (The Swans' first league point at Stamford Bridge since 1980). And earlier today, Arsenal's sterling wall collapsed against West Ham in a 2-0 defeat.

Liverpool's opening contest was quite competitive, as the Reds narrowly controlled the pitch – owning possession for 53% of the match. However, they outshot the opposition 8-7 (3-1 shots on goal), with none being more vital than Coutinho's dagger in the 86th minute.
