The Buffalo News is reporting that Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is under a rape investigation by police in Hamburg, NY. The alleged incident occurred last weekend. Tests involving a rape kit were utilized.

The NHL is aware of the investigation, according to WIVB-TV.

From the Buffalo News report:

Patrick Kane, the star player of the Chicago Blackhawks who grew up in South Buffalo, is the target of a rape investigation by Hamburg police for an incident that occurred over the last weekend, two law enforcement sources have told The Buffalo News.

A local woman has accused Kane of a sexual assault, the sources said.

The law enforcement sources said that the woman went to a hospital and that tests using a rape kit were performed.

The area is just outside Buffalo, where Kane is from, and is where the 26-year-old makes his home in the offseason. Kane was arrested and charged in Buffalo in 2009 for second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal mischief and theft of services after allegedly punching a cab driver in the face.

More recently in 2012, photos emerged of Kane celebrating Cinco de Mayo in Wisconsin. He was involved in an altercation outside a bar, but according to the Chicago Tribune, cooperated once he was told to leave and was not arrested.

"You feel you're kind of invincible," Kane said in March the next year. "But all that stuff was my fault. It's been humbling to go through those things. I'm a different person now and I've changed a lot. I'm moving on."

Reporters from the Buffalo news turned up at Kane's home to seek comment, but were turned away by an unidentified man. The outlet has filed FOIL requests, but it's unclear how successful the requests will be -- if at all.

In June, when the Blackhawks took their third Stanley Cup in six years, Kane made a joking reference to his checkered past.

"I know you said I've been growing up, but watch out for me the next week," Kane said.
