The NBA loves to make you buy things that you might not need but feel you still have to get. They typically go about this by unveiling new uniforms and then selling them to fans who need to have the most up-to-date on court fashion they possibly can.

Sometimes teams do legitimately unveil new uniforms to wear without needing the reason to be upping team store sales — and that's what the Toronto Raptors have done this week.

As pointed out by Phil Hecken, the Raptors are unveiling new uniforms for the 2015-16 season which appear to be a departure from everything they've ever worn.

This seems to be in line with the surge in minimalist art these days. We've all seen the re-done movie posters to present minimalism, the poster designs of baseball stadiums and football logos. The trend is now seeping its way into fashion as well, as seen not only with these but other uniforms in the NBA.

The Milwaukee Bucks unveiled their new uniforms earlier this year which featured the same minimalist design as the Raptors uniforms do. It's a sleek way to be hip with the uniforms, but it also smacks a bit of the old NBA way of introducing new jerseys just to sell them.

If you're one of those people who need to spring for the latest uniform, then you're going to need to do it again in a few years when Nike takes over as the official manufacturer of NBA uniforms — but at least this looks cool in the meantime.
