Zayn Malik's Solo Career Has Officially Begun

It's official. Zayn Malik has officially signed a solo record deal.

On Wednesday, the 22-year-old pop star took to Twitter to reveal he'll be launching his solo career with RCA Records.

In a move that may upset One Direction fans, Malik took the opportunity to finally reveal why he chose to leave the famous five-man group, explaining he wanted to make "real music."

On March 25, Malik sent shockwaves through his fan base when he chose to leave 1D. In an official announcement on the band's official Facebook profile, he stated:

"My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologise to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world."

Following the announcement, Malik remained silent until April 20.

His latest series of tweets are hot on the heels of his announcement that he inked a deal with Turn First Artists, the same management company that works with Iggy Azalea.

Naturally, his social antics have set off a firestorm on Twitter with #Directioners everywhere talking about the announcement and whether "Real Me" could be the title of Zayn's new solo album.
