'Fitness motivator' calls overweight people 'repulsive, disgusting' in viral video

Updated

"Disgusting" and "repulsive." Those were the words that one Texas-based fitness instructor used to describe overweight people.

John Burk dubs himself a "fitness motivator and enthusiast" and "motivational speaker" and he had some less than encouraging things to say about people struggling with their weight in a video that went viral this week.

In the video, Burk said "When I sit there and I look at somebody who is overweight, no, I find that utterly repulsive and disgusting. Why? Because it shows a lack of self discipline."

Burke goes on to warn parents that heavier kids being bullied is just "how life is." As of Thursday, the video had been viewed more than 3.5 million times on Facebook.

The Texas native served in Iraq and multiple tours in Afghanistan, most recently as an infantry drill sergeant.
