Instagram Bans #Curvy and Users Fight Back

After Instagram banned the hashtag #curvy in an effort to prevent nude images that continuously appeared under the term, a community of plus-size style bloggers felt stifled and unable to communicate with one another.

Rather than accept defeat, those who once utilized the #curvy hashtag made a bold statement by switching to #curvee instead. Women are now posting the new hashtag on their Instagram pictures in an effort to protest the ban of #curvy. In addition to #curvee, these women are including hashtags like #bringcurvyback and #everybodyisbeautiful in their posts.

The result of this protest goes to show that nobody can inflict beauty standards on others and that nothing is sexier than confidence. It also proves that people can make a difference when they're part of a supportive community.

Body positivity is the new diet. Rather than changing ourselves to fit some ignorant and unrealistic notion of attractiveness and acceptance, movements such as the #curvee trend are changing the face (or body) of beauty standards one Instagram picture at a time. Don't get quiet, get #curvee!
