Hogwarts Would Cost More Than Most Wizards Could Afford

Given the plethora of perks and luxuries given to Hogwarts students (I mean, talk about quality dining hall food), we would expect the glorified school of witchcraft and wizardry to burn quite the hole in students' pockets.

Last week, Mic wrote a story estimating how much the Hogwarts tuition would realistically cost. Given the wands, cauldrons, bedding, decor, and uniforms, the site concluded that Hogwarts would cost approximately $43,301 per year. Gasp! That would place Hogwarts among the 50 priciest schools in America.

If this were the case, the majority of Hogwarts hopefuls would have to kiss their dream of starring on the quidditch team and hanging with Hagrid's pet dragons behind. The news came as quite the devastation.

But alas, there is hope! J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to assure fans that Hogwarts is indeed affordable for all young witches and wizards. Thanks to the Ministry of Magic's generosity, the school demands no tuition! J.K. Rowling's tweet reads:

"There's no tuition fee! The Ministry of Magic covers the cost of all magical education!"

Now that we've gotten past that terrifying hurdle, the only thing stopping us from attending Hogwarts is the whole "Hogwarts is fictional" mumbo jumbo. We won't let the fact that the school doesn't actually exist crush our dreams. Hogwarts, here we come!
