Fashion Alert: Skinny Jeans May Be Bad for Your Health

Fashionistas know that skinny jeans are still in-style. But regardless of how good they may look, doctors are making a plea against the fad.

Recently, a 35-year-old woman in Australia was hospitalized for four days after squatting in her skinny jeans for several hours. She's claimed to have suffered nerve blockage, swelling, and muscle damage. And according to The Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry, this is a common side effect when compressing your legs with tight-fitting pants.

The combination of both squatting and wearing skinny jeans can have some serious side effects, and temporary nerve and vascular damage are just the start.

But luckily, the health issues are reversible as long as you take the pants off.

The easiest way to not fall victim to a tight wardrobe? Make sure when you're exercising especially you're making the swap to workout-friendly clothing. Also listen to your body if your legs are feeling numb and quickly swap wardrobes.

Don't worry, you don't have to retire your favorite hot pants...yet.
