Lexus Is Making Dreams Come True With New Hoverboard

Lexus is working on technology that will make that gadgets in "Back to the Future" a lot more accessible to all of us.

The Japanese car company posted a video to YouTube this week advertising a real ... wait for it ... hoverboard. While it doesn't show anyone actually riding the magnificent board we've all dreamed about, Gizmodo confirms the levitating device has been in development for the past 18 months.

Lexus explains its magnetic board uses liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors to support any Marty McFly who hops on -- hence the smoke shown coming out of the sides. As for whether the board will only work on metal surfaces or your average concrete platform like the one we see in the video remains to be seen.

You may not have to wait on Lexus to make your dreams come true. Arx Pax created what it claims is the world's first 'real' hoverboard, dubbed Hendo, thanks to a Kickstarter campaign. It was tested and approved by pro skater Tony Hawk and the company says it hopes to start shipping boards to backers as early as October of this year.
