Lego has been a favorite toy for decades, and the company is investigating ways they can continue to provide fun without harming the environment.

They plan to invest $150 million into finding an environmentally conscious replacement for the plastic they use.

Last year alone, they went through 6,000 tons of the oil-based ABS variety to produce 60 billion Lego parts.

Though they're currently unsure what a suitable replacement will be, they plan to establish a center dedicated to finding it.

They'll also bring in over a hundred new employees to help figure it out.

The goal for the introduction of a new environmentally friendly material has been designated as 2030.

Lego acknowledges they will face many challenges in this endeavor, especially while dealing with the issue of what exactly constitutes sustainability.

The company's CEO announced they're working within the general guideline of, "...the composition of the material, how it is sourced and what happens when the product reaches the end of its life."

Lego has already begun to utilize wind power and reduce packaging.
