BRIGHTON, Colo. — A police officer in Colorado is being praised for the way he comforted a baby girl who survived a car crash that killed her father.

A witness shared this photo of Officer Nick Struck holding the little girl after the crash, according to KUSA.

Struck responded to a call about a single-car rollover crash last Thursday just before 9:30 a.m.

Two adults and four children were in the vehicle at the time of the crash and they were all ejected.

The father died at the scene from his injuries. The woman and a child were both airlifted to hospitals in the area and the three other children were taken in ambulances.

When Struck was handed the little girl he told KUSA he began singing "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star," just like he would with his own 2-year-old daughter.

"When you hear that there's children involved, I'll tell you what, everyone that responds to that scene, you get that pit in your stomach," Struck told KUSA. "The first thing we do when we get on scene is we just try to, if we can comfort anybody, of course we're going to go to the kids."

Struck told KUSA his first thought was that this could be his own little girl.

The Brighton Police Department has since posted the photo to its Facebook page saying:

"We are extremely proud of the men and women of our department! Good work, Officer Struck! Thank you, 9NEWS (KUSA), for covering this!"

So sad but such a great picture that shows so much care officers give during their duties. Thank you Officer Struck for...
