1. Tragedy in Charleston: A gunman opened fire on a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, leaving 9 people dead, including the pastor. Police are still searching for the shooter and officials are calling it a hate crime. Read the developing story here.

2. Pope Francis Thursday called for a " bold cultural revolution" to fix what he says is the "structurally perverse" economic system where the rich exploit the poor. Read more here.

3. Hundreds attended last night's mass for the victims of the deadly balcony collapse in Berkley. A priest called on people to support the families of the six victims who died in the accident, as well as the survivors and their families. Read more here.

4. An announcement is expected later today from NBC about its agreement with Brian Williams. Following the scandal where Williams lied about his involvement in the Iraq crisis, he is expected to stay with NBC Universal, but to give the Nightly News chair to Lester Holt full time. Read more here.
