Bill Clinton Opens Up About Marriage To Hillary

President Bill Clinton and presidential front runner Hillary Clinton don't speak about their marriage too often, but in an upcoming interview with CNN's Jake Tapper, the former president opened up about how much his wife means to him.

In the "State Of The Union" interview airing on Sunday morning, Clinton describes his wife as a rock in his life, explaining how in his most difficult moments she was always steadfast.

"I was the youngest former governor in American history in 1980 on election night. I got killed in the Reagan landslide," Clinton recalled. "People I had appointed to office would walk across the street, they were so afraid of the new regime in Arkansas, and would not shake hands with me. My career prospects were not particularly bright. And she never blinked. She just said, 'Hey. It'll turn around. I believe in you. You've got this.'"

Their relationship has obviously been tested, specifically during President Clinton's impeachment trial following his affair with Monica Lewinsky. But the way he describes his wife's strength during his interview with Tapper, is very similar to how Hillary sounded during a 1979 interview shortly after her husband became the governor of Arkansas.

"I think that people who are married to politicians are under a tremendous strain," Hillary said at the time. "Because unless you have a pretty strong sense of your own self-identity, it becomes very easy to be buffeted about by all the people who are around your husband."

The full interview with President Bill Clinton will air on CNN Sunday.
