Mom's Emotional Facebook Post About Down Syndrome Goes Viral

On Monday, June 8, Caroline Boudet took to her personal Facebook page to post about her four-month old-daughter, Louise. Far too often, she had been hearing comments and questions about Louise, who has Down syndrome. The emotional post in support of her daughter quickly went viral — initially getting picked up by French news outlets and then by sources around the world.

"Here is my baby girl, Louise. She is 4 months old, has two legs two arms, and one extra chromosome," she wrote. "Please, when you meet a Louise, do not ask her mother, 'How come you did not find out during the pregnancy?'"

She noted that strangers are quick to judge her daughter, and she urged people to recognize the potential harm that their words can have on others.

In the two days since Boudet posted about Louise, she has set up a public Facebook page for Louise & Co., which will allow her to better keep up with messages of support from strangers.

"Hi everyone! Louise's mom got so many private messages in her inbox that Louise asked her to open this page, so that anyone who wants to leave her a message can do it. She will read them as soon as she can read!"
