Former McKinney cop: Officer in viral pool party video looks like 'a rookie'

(KDAF -- MCKINNEY) It's swarming all over social media, and so far, it seems most folks feel the McKinney cop in the viral video slamming a 14-year-old girl in a bikini to the ground and pulling out his gun, is out of control.

Pete Schulte, a former Dallas DA who's now in private practice, gave us his take on the situation.

"As I was watching the video, I was like 'yeah this looks like a rookie officer who's fresh off the academy,'" explained Schulte. "Then I really was surprised when I saw that it was actually one of the patrol supervisors."

He was especially surprised because he's been there. Schulte used to be a McKinney cop too.

"When you go out to these loud parties, I mean, people are going to run from you. It's nothing new. It's almost expected every time I responded to a loud party in Mckinney, " he explained. "As soon as the squad cars drive up and people were outside, they were going each and every direction. It's not that big of a deal."

Although it's been some time since he wore the uniform, Schulte says the protocols he was taught have always stuck with him.

"Police officers are trained were we can't be offended. In other words, I don't care if she was calling that officer every name in the book, you can't respond and react like that," added Schulte.

And what about the fact that it's the cop who's dropping the f-bomb?

"I think the language was completely unacceptable. You can't as a police officer, especially a supervisor, start using that kind of language, especially to teenagers," Schulte said.

But Schulte draws the line at saying this incident was a black and white issue.

"Racial motivation. I don't think that was the key. I just think that was the way they were in this particular situation. Probably not the best thing to do when you have a video."

The officer involved, Corporal Eric Casebolt, has been put on leave and is under investigation.
