The science behind dark lightning

You could be struck by lightning and not even know it. How? Dark lightning.

Unlike ordinary lightning, dark lightning is invisible, which is where it gets its name. Experts say your greatest chance of being struck is on an airplane during a thunderstorm.

Even though you may not feel it, it doesn't mean it's not dangerous. You'd still get hit with a high dose of radiation. That's because dark lightning is just that; a sudden pulse of powerful radiation coming from a thundercloud.

But, not to worry researchers say there's only one dark lightning strike for every one thousand visible flashes.

So, your chance of being struck is extremely small.
