In the end, Conn. native Nick Fradiani proved he had what it takes to be crowned the winner.

Wrapping up the episode after his spectacular victory, Fradiani performed his new single "Beautiful Life," bringing his family, friends and the audience to tears.

Clark Beckham, who had proven a worthy competitor throughout the season, secured the runner up title -- which has notoriously been the better outcome for contestants when it comes to having a career after Idol.

During the star-studded finale, Fradiani and Beckham also got the privilege of singing with musical icons. Fradiani performed with "Honey, I'm Good" singer Andy Grammer, while Beckham got to take the stage with the legendary Michael McDonald.

Now that he's won Idol, 29-year-old Fradiani will sign with Scott Borchetta of Big Machine Records, for which he will begin recording his album. He'll also perform at the CMA Music Festival in June.
