Upon hearing the devastating news, the 32-year-old actress shared her heartbreak with her 1.5 million Instagram followers on Saturday. "Today I find myself attempting to pick up the pieces of my heart that have broken into such tiny shards, I'll likely never find them all," Bush wrote. "Today I, and so many of my loved ones, lost an incredible friend. Dan Fredinburg was one-of-a-kind. Fearless. Funny."

The Chicago P.D. star dated Fredinburg from 2013 to 2014, and refers to him in her post as "one of the great loves of my life."

"He was one of my truest friends," she continued in the same message. "I'm devastated and simultaneously so deeply grateful to have known and loved him, and to have counted him as one of my tribe."

Bush-- who attended the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday -- then encouraged her followers to not take their loved ones for granted. "Please tell those you love that you do. Right now. This very minute," she wrote. "And please send a kiss to the sky for my friend Dan. His energy is so big and so bright, and it's all around us, so put some love toward him today. And then hug your loved ones again."

Bush isn't the only person to have lost someone in the Nepal earthquake. The death toll has exceeded 2,500 and the actress is asking people to donate to Fredinburg's Crowdrise fundraising site in an effort to help those affected by the natural disaster.

"Our friend Dan Fredinburg was climbing Everest on behalf of OrphanGift in support of two Nepali orphanages when the earthquake struck," the site reads. "Please donate to honor his memory and carry on his mission. All funds will help OrphanGift provide urgent aid for the children effected by the disaster and restoring structural damage."

As of Monday morning, $27,118 had been raised in Fredinburg's memory.
