Ben & Jerry's criticized for ice cream-flavored beer

Ben and Jerry's is combining everyone's favorite things: Ice cream and alcohol.

The homegrown ice-cream maker is teaming up with New Belgium Brewing Co. to brew an ice-cream flavored beer.

It's going to be New Belgium's salty brown ale paired with Ben and Jerry's Salted Caramel Brownie.

Sounds pretty awesome, doesn't it? Well ... not for some.

A consumer watchdog group says this is all in bad taste and criticized Ben and Jerry's for putting kid-friendly labels on alcohol.

The executive director and CEO of Alcohol Justice called it "a crass, corporate greedy move to put put a brand name like Ben & Jerry's on a beer. It's bad for children -- who will start looking at beer as the next step after ice cream."

So ice cream is now a gateway drug for beer. That might've been a bit dramatic for some.

Mike Wendt tweeted: "Ben & Jerry's Beer? Disturbing, new, youth-exploiting, ice-cream beer' Great example of ridiculous internet outrage!"

And Jodie Higgins said, "Get over it. companies make things. YOU teach kids. Ben & Jerry's takes heat for ice cream beer."

The ice cream maker is known for its creative flavors, and craft beer may not be the last controversial ingredient we see yet.

Last month, Ben & Jerry's co-founder Jerry Greenfield said in an interview with HuffPost Live that he has considered the possibility of a marijuana-infused ice cream - where it's legal.

"Ben and I have had previous experiences with substances, and I think legalizing marijuana is a wonderful thing. It's not my decision. If it were my decision, I'd be doing it, but fortunately we have wiser heads at the company that figure those things out."
