Surveillance Video Shows Man Punching Toddler In The Face

Police in Bakersfield, California arrested a man who was caught on surveillance video abusing his son at a supermarket.

The shocking incident happened around 2:30 Thursday afternoon. The video shows 23-year-old Justin Whittington running up to a toddler, slapping him in the face and knocking him to the ground. Whittington then yanks the boy off the floor as he hysterically begins to cry. A woman, possibly his mother, walks up and takes him outside as if nothing happened.

Police say Whittington is the boy's father and that they've been seen visiting the store together before. KTLA reports authorities arrested him Friday after the surveillance video was posted online and went viral. Fortunately, they say the child is doing just fine.

The supermarket's owner handed the video over to police AND told ABC's KERO it was devastating to watch.

"This is the most horrible thing I've ever seen, watching this kid get knocked out by his dad."

Whittington faces one count of felony assault on a child and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. He's being held on $1 million dollar bail.
