14 movies to be excited for this summer

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift topped DoSomething.org’s list of top celebrity do-gooders for two years straight in 2012 and 2013, and it looks like she is in the running for this year too. The singer announced that she was donating 100 percent of the proceeds from "Welcome to New York," off her new "1989" album, to NYC public schools. That alone might make her the most charitable star because "1989" sold 1.287 million copies in its first week.

Bono

One UK star to make the list is Bono. The U2 frontman and designer Sir Jonathan Ive raised around 12.5 million for the Global Fund to Fight Aids in Africa recently. They were matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to give a whopping 25 million from one auction!

Elton John

Sir Elton John perpetually tops the lists of the biggest celebrity donors. The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) has given out $2 million in grant investments in 2014 alone to support LGBTQ organizations and groups aiding the fight against HIV/AIDS. Since creating his foundation in 1992, the singer has helped raise over $300 million to help people across the world.

J.K. Rowling

The "Harry Potter" author has made headlines in the past for knocking herself out of the billionaires club with all of her donations. She is back at it again in 2014. The Sunday Times just named her the second biggest donor of British  cultural icon (second to Elton John.) Rowling has already given $15.1 million this year to Lumos children's charity and her Volant charitable trust, which funds medical research into diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

In true Brangelina fashion, the power couple decided to sell their August wedding photos and donate the proceeds to charity. People and Hello! Magazine handed over $2.5 million each, and the money went to their foundation the Maddox Jolie Pitt Foundation. It primarily focuses on clean water projects and providing children across the world with vaccines.

George Clooney

Brad Pitt’s best bud George Clooney also got married this year. He and his beautiful bride Amal Alamuddin also sold their wedding photos to People and Hello! Magazines.

Sources told TMZ that the seven figure sum will go to Clooney’s charity, the Satellite Sentinel, which monitors the movements of militant gangs in the Sudan.

John Cena

It is not just donated money that brings good to world, as John Cena proves. The WWE superstar helped grant his 400th wish for the Make-a-Wish Foundation in 2014. The 11-time champion has met with the most children of any celebrity in the history of the program. Now THAT is something to brag about!

Oprah Winfrey

Oprah is inescapable. She is even at your favorite Starbucks with her Teavana Oprah Chai Tea, but that is a good thing. Since Oprah’s specialty blend hit the market in April, Starbucks has made a donation for each cup or package sold to benefit the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation.

Justin Bieber

Love him or hate him … the Biebs makes chidren happy and that is what really matters. Meeting with the Canadian superstar is a really popular wish among children at the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Back in 2013, the singer broke the record for the most wishes granted by a recording artist with 200. Despite his naughty streak, he has not stopped thinking about the children. Back in July, Justin won the ‘Champ of Charity’ award at the Young Hollywood Awards. He immediately gave his trophy to his date, Make-A-Wish recipient Grace Kesablak.

Okay it is not one celebrity, but all of our favorite U.K. singers came together to re-do Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know its Christmas Time?’  to fight Ebola, and for that Bono, Chris Martin, Sinead O'Connor, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora, Elle Goulding and more  deserve our respect.
