Taylor Swift reveals her mother has cancer in heartfelt Tumblr post

Taylor Swift revealed on Thursday that her mother, Andrea Finlay, has been diagnosed with cancer.

In a heartbreaking Tumblr post, the pop star explained that she made her mother get screened for any health issues "just to ease some worries" over the holidays.

"The results came in, and I'm saddened to tell you that my mom has been diagnosed with cancer," Swift wrote in the post. "I'd like to keep the details of her condition and treatment plans private, but she wanted you to know."

Finlay, 57, asked Swift to make her diagnosis public, so fans could also urge their parents to get screened and either have a possible early diagnosis or peace of mind in knowing they're healthy.

The "Shake It Off" singer is extremely close with her mom. Her song "The Best Day" on her "Fearless" album is about their relationship.

"I've never gone a day without talking to her," she told Ladies Home Journal in 2010. "Growing up, she was always there for me when I needed a friend. That's why she's still one of my closest friends now."

Swift also revealed in her note that she might be cutting the number of shows in her upcoming 1989 World Tour.
