The Day 'Lost' Fans Have Been Anticipating For A Decade

After more than a decade of waiting, fans of the television series "Lost" finally arrived at a monumental date Wednesday.

Since the episode "Numbers" premiered on March 2nd, 2005, the digits 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 have driven fans crazy, as Uproxx pointed out. What did those numbers mean? And what did they have to do with the character Hurley?

The numbers first appeared after Hurley won the lotto, and they kept popping up throughout the series.

In a 2008 interview with USA Today, "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof said, "The purpose of the show wasn't about the answer to what the numbers meant, it was really about, how did I feel while I was watching 'Lost?'"

While it's not exactly clear what the numbers are referring to, and the mythology behind the seemingly random numbers was never explained, one thing's for certain: on April 8th all of those numbers will play out. At exactly 4:23:42 p.m. (or 16:23:42 for those who use military time) on April 8th it will be 4 months, 8 days into the year 2015 and 16 hours, 23 minutes and 42 seconds into the day.

So perhaps fans will spend "Lost Day" in a similar way "Star Wars" fans celebrate May the Fourth, by re-watching their favorite episodes and trying to figure out what the show was all about.
