The hills are still alive with The Sound of Music, 50 years later.

Monday marks the official day The Sound of Music was released in 1965, and the heartwarming tale about the Von Trapp family singers still never gets old.

It's one of the most beloved classics with Julie Andrews playing the role of a governess, Maria, who brings love and music to the family of a widowed naval captain played by Christopher Plummer. So what are Andrews, Plummer, and the actors who plays their seven children up to now? ETonline breaks down what happened to one of our favorite casts.

Julie Andrews (Maria), 79, continued her acting career, but sadly she lost her singing voice after an operation in 1997. She still continued to act in lovable films like The Princess Diaries, Tooth Fairy and her voice is featured in films such as Shrek and Despicable Me. In 2000, Andrews was named a Dame Commander of the British Empire.

Christopher Plummer (Captain von Trapp), 85, became the oldest actor to win an Oscar for his 2010 role in Beginners. Recently, he starred in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and is even a video game character voice in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

Charmian Carr (Liesl), 72, is now an interior designer in California. She retired from acting to raise two daughters and has also written two books, Forever Liesl and Letters to Liesl.

Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), 64, has since transitioned to television. In 1977, Hammond played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man. Hammond became a writer for Australian television and is currently utilizing his acting, writing and producing skills down under.

Heather Menzies (Louisa), 65, founded the Urich Foundation for Cancer while her husband, Robert Urich, was undergoing treatment. She met Robert on the set of a Libby's Corned Beef Hash Commercial. He passed away in 2002, and she continues to raise money for the foundation to benefit scientists, patients and their families.

Duane Chase (Kurt), 64, shifted gears from acting and graduated with a degree in geology at the University of Alabama. He currently lives in Seattle, Wash., and is a computer software designer for geologists and geophysicists.

Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), 62, made a cameo appearance in Lost In Space and is a published author of Pasticcio quartz, a bi-annual journal. She has also been a photographer for 30 years and has a studio in Studio City, Calif.

Debbie Turner (Marta), 58, opened a floral and event design company called "Debbie Turner Originals." She also designs collectible Santa Claus dolls.

Kym Karath (Gretl), 56, was a soap star named Kristen in All My Children in 1970 and was in a number of TV shows in the '60s. She's never gave up acting and lives in Los Angeles.

The Sound of Music earned 10 Oscar nominations, winning five – Best Picture, Best Director, Best Sound, Best Film Editing and Best Music, Scoring of Music, Adaptation or Treatment.

The musical was revived for a live performance on NBC with country singer Carrie Underwood in December 2013, and who can forget Lady Gaga's recent Oscars tribute?

Andrews took the stage after Lady Gaga performed, giving the 28-year-old singer the ultimate stamp of approval.
