Miss Amazonas Beauty Pageant Turns Ugly

It was all beauty and grace at this year's Miss Universe competition, but sadly, not all pageants wrap up so elegantly. The 60th Miss Amazonas contest ended much like a soap opera in need of a ratings boost Friday in Manaus, the capital of Amazon, in Northern Brazil.

Carolina Toledo and Sheislan Hayall graciously held hands awaiting the crown. But when Toledo was given the title, things took an unexpected turn.

At first, runner-up Hayall quietly retreated to the back with the rest of the gals, but then it looks like she had a change of heart - something in line with a Portuguese version of Kanye West. She turned right back around and yanked the crown from the beauty queen's head, threw it to the ground and stormed off stage.

But when confronted about the incident, Hayall says it had nothing to do with jealousy - and everything to do with justice. Now, my Portuguese isn't top notch - but after a rough Google translation we were able to determine that Hayall accused the winner of buying her top spot.

She told Globo, "What I did was not on impulse, [it] was to show Manaus, Brazil and the world, that money cannot buy everything. I didn't do it for me but for other candidates ... She didn't deserve the title."

Unfortunately for her, the judges didn't agree and Miss Amazonas Caroline Toledo got to keep her crown. She'll go on to represent her state in the national Miss Brazil beauty contest.
