In a move that has shook 12-year-old me to the core, musician Tom DeLonge has announced his plans to leave the punk band Blink-182 for "non-musical ventures."

In a statement sent to Radio.com, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker explained that though DeLonge has left the group, they will continue with tours and releasing music. According to the website:

"We were all set to play this festival and record a new album and Tom kept putting it off without reason," they wrote. "A week before we were scheduled to go in to the studio we got an email from his manager explaining that he didn't want to participate in any Blink-182 projects indefinitely, but would rather work on his other non-musical endeavors."

There are "no hard feelings," they added, "but the show must go on for our fans."

Though news of this shall early 2000s middle schoolers everywhere, the trio announced this morning that Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio will be filling in for the absent guitarist. Though it doesn't appear that he will be a permanent fixture to the band he does plan to tour with them in lieu of DeLonge.

The aforementioned festival is a big project for the band's drummer Travis Barker who will be curating the bands for the festival for a second year. Fans can look forward to performances by "Bad Religion, Rancid, Yelawolf, OFF!, Sick Of It All and Ignite" says the music website. Tickets for the three-day festival (which takes place March 20th through the 22nd) open this Friday at 10 A.M. Pacific Time.

Tom Delonge helped found the band in 1992 with bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Scott Raynor. Travis Barker eventually came to replace Scott Raynor in 1998.

The band's last album, Neighborhoods, was released in 2011.
