Father Delivers Baby After Wrecking Car on Way to Hospital

THORNTON, Colo. -- A father racing to the hospital with his pregnant wife wound up delivering his own son in the hospital parking lot.

The story of how baby Elijah came into this world is one he'll be able to tell many times over the course of his healthy life. For parents Angela and Sergey, it's comical, yet still miraculous.

Ten days early, and on a night when freezing rain left windshields and streets a sheet of ice, Angela knew he was coming.

After hitting a curb and popping a tire on the way to the hospital, Angela knew there was no time to park -- and while Sergey was ready to bring Angela into the hospital for the delivery, she knew there was no time for that, either.

And so, baby Elijah was born right then and there -- in the parking lot.

Now nine days later -- and still two days away from his original due date -- Elijah lays with his rosy cheeks and healthy glow.

Sergey says they've had an outpouring of support from the community, but are still trying to wrap their heads around the storybook birth ... and how they are going to top that with the next one.
