BLOOMING GROVE, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania trooper wounded in a deadly September ambush outside his barracks is home for a holiday visit.

Trooper Alex Douglass has left a rehabilitation center to spend Christmas with family in Lackawanna County. Lt. Chris Paris says Douglass is in good spirits but has a long way to go with his rehabilitation in New York.

Douglass has posted a message through his brother's Facebook page thanking supporters for their well wishes. A photo shows him standing on crutches next to a Christmas tree.

Military re-enactor Eric Frein is accused of shooting Douglass in the pelvis and fatally shooting Cpl. Bryon Dickson outside the Blooming Grove barracks on Sept. 12.

The Canadensis man is scheduled for a Jan. 5 preliminary hearing after being on the run for seven weeks.
