MIAMI (AP) - U.S.-based forecasters say Hurricane Vance has formed hundreds of miles off Mexico's Pacific coast, but poses no immediate threat to land.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Vance strengthened Sunday into a low-level Category 1 hurricane with top sustained winds of 80 mph (130 kph). The storm was centered approximately 535 miles (860 kilometers) south-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico, and moving toward the northwest near 15 mph (24 kph).

The Miami center says no coastal watches or warnings are in effect at this time as Vance moves over open ocean waters. Vance is expected to strengthen in the next day or so but then, forecasters say, it is likely to begin weakening by late Monday.
