Kansas City's Cinderella postseason run continues in World Series

In one of the most surprising playoff runs in MLB history, the Kansas City Royals have emerged from the baseball wilderness to reach their first World Series since 1985.

Following that triumph, the Royals hadn't even played postseason baseball until their matchup with the Oakland A's in this year's "winner takes all" AL Wild Card round. Then, it still took multiple rallies from Ned Yost's crew to stave off elimination and pull off a dramatic, extra-inning comeback victory for the ages.

Since that remarkable game, the Royals have reeled off successive sweeps of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Baltimore Orioles, with eight straight wins -- good for the all-time MLB record for consecutive victories to begin the postseason.

Now, the boys in blue will be hoping their combination of aggressive base running and lights-out relief pitching will help them topple a Giants team that is looking to win its third World Series over the past five years.
