The Kansas City Royals have already kick-started the 2014 MLB Playoffs with a tremendous amount of drama, coming back on multiple occasions to defeat the Oakland Athletics, 9-8 in 12 heart-stopping innings of baseball. As the Royals set their sights on dethroning the pennant-winning Angels, we take a look back at the tumultuous journey from the lowly Royals into everyone's favorite underdog.

Led by James "Big Game" Shields, one of the best bullpens in all of Major League Baseball and the legs of near-MVP-candidate Salvador Perez, the Royals have an assortment of talent that can really scare some teams this postseason. This small-ball club will look to beat the home run-hitting Halos starting this weekend, which means a nice contrast in style will play out on the biggest stage.

The Royals practically overcame it all in the AL Wild Card Game, besting Oakland in another dramatic from Kauffman Stadium. Call it beginners luck, but the Royals looked like a squad unfazed by the moment, going balls to the wall both on the mound and on the base paths. Kansas City plays the game in a fun, fast-paced manner -- swiping bases, laying down bunts and going station-to-station. And what an opening act to the postseason, 29 years following their last World Series championship.

"That's the most incredible game I've ever been a part of," Yost told reporters after the game. "Our fans were, man, unbelievable. Our guys never quit. When we fell behind there in the fifth inning, sixth inning, they kept battling back. They weren't going to be denied. It was just a great game."

In honor of the Royals advancing in the postseason, it's time to vicariously celebrate America's Cinderella Story reaching October baseball. What better way to voice that excitement, as millions of fans will be following their every move to Disneyland and beyond, than the inspirational words of Lorde. The MLB postseason is back, and baseball fans found their next 30-day sweetheart. So to better encapsulate the feeling around Kansas City at this moment, enjoy our October-themed rendition of Royals.

The Kansas City Royals, everybody's playoff Cinderella team

I've never seen a playoff team in the flesh
I cut my teeth on the championships rings in last place
And I'm not proud of my address
In a torn-up town, no baseball envy.

But every season's like fools gold, tough games, trippin' in the Central
Losing stains, tough games, trashin' the home locker room,
We don't care, we're driving bandwagons in our dreams.
But everybody's like George Brett, Steve Balboni, winners on your timepiece.
Jet planes, trade deadlines, Tigers on a tight leash.
We don't care, we aren't caught up in our 29-year losing affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
Quitting don't run in our blood,
That kind of luxe just wasn't for us.
Yost made us crave a different kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me Cinderella team
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule,
Let me live that playoff fantasy.

My 25 friends and I –- we've cracked the code.
We count our dollars on the train to the playoffs
And everyone who knows us knows
That we're fine with this,
We didn't come from any winning pedigree

But every postseason's like a gold mine, thrill ride, Bud Selig replay time.
Blood stains, tough games, trashin' in the locker room.
We don't care, we're driving bandwagons in our dreams.
But everybody like Billy Butler, Alex Gordon and Eric Hosmer on your timepiece.
Jet planes, one-game playoffs, Tigers on a tight leash
We don't care, we aren't caught up in your postseason affair

And we'll never be royals, (royals).
Quitting don't run in our blood.
That kind of game just ain't for us.
We crave a winning kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me Cinderella team
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that playoff fantasy.

Ooh, ooh oh
We're bigger than we ever dreamed,
And I'm in love with the best bullpen you've ever seen.
Ooh ooh oh
Life is great without a care
We aren't caught up in your underdog affair.

And we'll never be royals (royals).
Losing don't run in our blood
That kind of quit just ain't for us.
We crave the late-inning kind of buzz.
Let me be your ruler (ruler),
You can call me America's team
And baby I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule, I'll rule.
Let me live that playoff fantasy.
