I ate an ENTIRE Christmas tree for lunch!!! πŸŽ„πŸŽ„πŸŽ„well...kinda. Haha! Here's a healthy salad/Christmas tree idea for this festive season...place a star anise on top and cinnamon stick for the trunk and drizzle some balsamic glaze! It's been a while since my last post cos I've been traveling lately for work and weddings (so many of them this season, who's with me?!)...I'm back and look forward to posting more here!
I'm working hard in my office now and am dreaming of hiking up purple mountains and broccoli-looking trees and seeing the sun and rainbow! I've always been an outdoorsy sorta gal. Are you guys into hiking? Where was the last place you went to? Mine was probably 4 years ago; I did a 6 day hike in Tasmania...loved it! (Food art made of eggplants, broccoli, mayo, sauce, lemon n chilli) #redhongyi
An apple tree made of chills and salad. Confusing, I know! Hope you had a great start to your week. If it's been rough....hang in there! X #redhongyi #centrum
Maybe this could be a new way to present salad...not sure if it'll be tasty though 😝 The past few food art series are displayed in subway stations throughout China; tag me if you see them! Have a beautiful day, everyone! I'm off to tackle mountains (not literally - but there's heaps of work these two weeks, aaah!) #redhongyi #centrum

Good morning!!! It's Malaysia's 13th General Elections today! I'm so excited and full of hope for this country. Here's a food art repost, of the skyline of Kuala Lumpur, our capital city. It's made of nasi lemak - our national dish - which consists of a hard boiled egg, cucumber slices, anchovies, roasted peanuts, a hot sauce called sambal, and coconut flavoured rice...served on a banana leaf! "Negaraku, tanah tumpahnya darahku...!"
Happy Dragon Boat Festival! η«―εˆη―€εΏ«ζ¨‚οΌToday the Chinese celebrate by racing dragon boats and eating rice dumplings (or 'zongzi')...shown in my art piece above :) According to legend, these rice dumplings were created to commemorate the death of Qu Yuan, a famous Chinese poet. Wu Yuan drowned in a river and rice dumplings were thrown into the river to prevent fish from eating him.

Landscape made entirely out of an orange. 🍊Tag your special someone to let them know it's better being together with them πŸ’› [this piece was made for Orange Coast Magazine. I used oranges cos that's supposed to be Orange County :) ] #redhongyi #foodart
Good morning! Gone market shopping today yet? This little stall is made of eggplant, spaghetti sticks, herbs, kiwi, orange and soysauce 😊 also...hello from Osaka! Konichiwa! It's my first time in Japan! What do u recommend I see/eat in Osaka?! Haha 🌸🎌
This is what I had for lunch today! I am amazed at how everything is presented SO incredibly well in Japan...and this I bought at a supermarket! Japan has definitely inspired me to create more refined, presentable work. I'm leaving Japan today for Malaysia, and will be back again in a few months to install an art piece. Will miss this place! 🍱🍣πŸ₯🍘🍚

Her bio begins with the simplest of statements: "Hi! I'm Red. I like to paint, but not with a paintbrush." An architecture student from Melbourne (by way of Malaysia), Red has been featured around the world for her uniquely exquisite use of textures and everyday objects to create her projects ... like food!

designboom did a full feature on her back in 2013 with a series called 31 days of creativity with food by hong yi (red) introducing a variety of tasty creations from Red as she plotted a piece a day for the entire month of March before sitting down for a great interview with them that you can read here: creativity with food series by hong yi (red) - week two. She has also created some pretty amazing plated food panoramas for Mastercard (featured in the above gallery).

Hong Yi's Instagram page is basically an endless portal into a delicious clickhole of pictures that you need to take some time exploring. Scroll through some of our favorites above and be sure to head over to her page for the full experience.
