Newborn dies after pregnant woman shot to death
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Authorities in Philadelphia say a newborn baby of a pregnant woman killed by gunfire in northeast Philadelphia over the weekend has also died.
Police said the woman was shot while sitting outside a home in the Frankford section of the city when someone opened fire up the block shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday.
Authorities said the woman was rushed to Temple University Hospital but did not survive.
Doctors were able to deliver the baby by emergency Caesarean section, but a hospital spokesman said early Monday that the child had died.
Investigators are trying to determine the circumstances of the shooting and say no suspects have been arrested.
