Some of you commenters have problems.
turning an interesting article about an asteroid to a vehicle that pushes your political agenda.

Very sad indeed.

Relax, you have Allstate's meteor/asteroid accident insurance policy. If the earth is destroyed, you get a newer earth as your replacement.

You betcha...It's also his fault that it's hot outside today, and rumor has it that he's responsible for the War of 1812 and the melting polar ice caps

I could be wrong on this, but is it possible global warming is playing a role in this. Let's get Al gore on this ASAP.

I'm curious as to how no one saw this meteor coming. Especially since it's on a path that brings it so close to Earth that it literally passes between us and the moon! Where are all of the eyes on the sky?

I am also curious why most of the people do the strange things we read about in the news nowadays. We seem to be losing our minds.

It's not a perfect system and can't see everything everywhere. Like every defensive system there are holes and all we can do is hope the killer is in the high percentage we do see in time to do something. This asteroid is pretty mall and could be travelling at over 100,000 mph. It's not a needle in a haystack, it's a sliver of glass in the ocean. One that size would have burned up during entry anyway.

Haha, pretty small. If it was a pretty mall my daughter would have spotted it.

the rules are , if it will pass then they tell us - if it will not pass and cause unimaginable damage , they will not tell us - they will let you get smashed to smitherines , instead of causing a panic - so might as well have some fun , you aint going anywhere lol

Our 'duly elected' leaders completely ignore the two most important elements in governing America. #1. God. The God in which this country was founded upon, Judeo/Christian principles. Freedom of religion? O.K. But, do NOT take these priciples lightly by giving other 'factions' the 'Right to be Offended'! People migrated to America originally with Christianity and right to worship on 'their' interpretation of it. #2, Does Al (bloody) Gore include this asteroid in his 'climate control' theory? He is part of the evil.

Wow, Tootsie Wootsie, your seat on the 18th century book of scientific comprehension is clearly established by your cretinous diatribe. The picture of a large object headed for the piriphery of earths orbit is a representation of actual events, not as you suggest a movie poster from "Forbidden Planet".
