It's good to stop and smell the roses every now and then, but maybe not while you're running from police...

Daniel Pinedo-Velapatino, 21, allegedly stole thousands of dollars from his friend, stole a car and burglarized a couple's home last month.

During a wild police chase, Daniel crashed the car into a fire hydrant and a police cruiser, then got stuck in the mud.

After taking off on foot he eventually took shelter in a woman's home...

She told WPBF, "I said, 'Excuse me, can I help you?' He said, 'Oh, I'm so sorry. Next door, I'm mowing the lawn. Do you mind if I have a glass of water?'"

When she got back with the water, Daniel had let himself in and was busy playing with her cats. Suspicious, she called police.

And now he's in jail with a $76,000 bail.
