Massachusetts Man Who Sparked ALS 'Ice Bucket Challenge' Now a Father

BOSTON - Pete Frates, the man who inspired the "Ice Bucket Challenge" is now a father.

Lucy Fitzgerald Frates was born to Julie Frates and Pete Frates Sunday morning. Pete Frates, a former Boston College baseball player who lives in Beverly, was diagnosed with ALS two years ago when he was 27.

Pete Frates' father John Frates told SportsCenter 5's Mike Lynch that the birth was "the perfect ending to the miracle month of August."

Lucy Frates checked in at 7 pounds 8 ounces, and both mom and baby are doing well, the family told Lynch.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has raised millions of dollars since Pete Frates dared a few people to try it earlier this year, all in the name of raising awareness of the debilitating disease.

Check out tons of celebs taking the challenge:

I am happy that someone is doing SOMETHING. My wife died from ALS 11 years ago. Doctors refused to look into her health background and thought it coincidence tht three persons who died of the disease had lived in the SAME HOUSE.

Down right stupid thing to do. If you can donate or help by in other ways. Yhis ice thing is stupid, and means nothing at all.

While celebrities and their groupies have their fun, water scarcity affects 1.2 billion people in the world. Water has been cut off for people in Detroit and California's people have no water in some areas due to the drought. I find this water challenge "fun thing to do" to be insulting.

Not to drop a bucket of ice water on this ALS challenge phenominon, but only 27% of the raised funds are going to patient care and research.
A LOT of people are getting "healthy" from this drive; UNFOTUNATELY it is not the victims of this disease.

where do you get your data?

I looked up where you got your "data"- a biased "report" for media consumption. Take a look at this iinstead by a reputable rating agency: http://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3296#.VAX4KUs9WhN If you will compare how they rate other reputable agencies such as the American Heart Association, for example, you will see they compare very well.

So much raised for this illness and only 7% of the budget is being used for research. The other funds are going for SALARIES and MARKETING.....Of course no one has publicized the fact that one woman died 35 minutes after doing the challenge and of course the firefighters who were electrocuted when assisting a group of students do the challenge...just donate the rest is not necessary.

the ALS ice bucket challenge is of "white" supremacy! if that wheelchair guy was "Black" it wouldn't be publicized as much. "Black" people are always giving their time, energy and monet to demonic causes, meanwhile we are being murdered by the police departments worldwide! where's the challenge for all the "Black" ancestors who built this land? where's the challenge for the MISEDUCATION of the "Black" public school systems? where's the challenge for all the atrocities and genocide of the "Black" race afflicted by the press, media, corrupt police, evil churches, synagogues, evil brainwashing education systems. Because we Hebrew Yisraelites have surrendered our crown of inheritance from our Most High father and have inherited a psychological fear from our enemies and took up false gods of their satanic religions; we all are now lifeless and shall fall by Most High's sword = (eccl 10:2-5,17:10-12)(lam 5:1-22)(jere 2:13-20,4:13,5:19,9:25-26,10:1-25,11:19,16:10-21,17:4,23:16,50:17-19,51:17-21)(col 1:12)(psa 38:38,52:1-7,83:3-12,96:5)(habakkuk 2:18-19)(acts 7:37-43)(deut 4:19,7:25-26,32:16-17,41-43)(isa 28:15,31:1-3,42:22,51:20-23,61:1-7,65:1-15,66:15-16)(2cor 4:3-4)(matt 10:34-42,22:29,32)(1king 11:5-7)(prov 1:20-33,11:21-22,28:26,30:6)(exo 20:1-26,23:14-19,24,32:4-10)(lev 23:1-4,26:1-46)(rev 13:1,16,14:8-12)(1sam 5:4)(baruch 4:1-3,6-8)(amos 3:1-3,5:21-27,9:7-15)(deut 18:9-14,32:41-43)(2thess 2:3-12)(rom 1:21-25,10:1-3,11:26-27,16:18)(ezek 9:4-11)(isa 30:12-13,52:1-3,65:11-15,65:11-15,66:15-16)(lam 5:1-22)(john 4:22)(1john 2:19)(james 5:1-12)(eph 5:11-12)(haggai 1:5-6)(hosea 10:13-15)(josh 23:11-16)(2esdras 14:14-16,34-35)(2john:10)(prov 19:21)(amos 5:21-27,9:8-15)(2chron 36:16-19)(zech 7:11-13)(1king 11:1-43)(sirach 12:10-14,36:1-11)(wisdom of sol 4:14-15,14:8-10,15:4-6)(1cor 2:1-8,10:21)(micah 3:11-12)(acts 5:29-32)(2cor 11:13-14)(job 9:24)

If people are going to accept the ice bucket challenge, at least do it the way it was intended to be done and not like some videos I've seen done in a swimming pool with no ice in the "bucket" and without seeing the outcome of the challenge. The video was stopped mid "dump". This whole way of doing it defeats the purpose so why accept the challenge if it's not going to be done right?
