Drive Thru Coffee Stand Accused Of Being A Brothel

(NEWSY) The owner of Java Juggs, a drive-thru coffee stand in Everett, Wash., is facing prostitution charges after investigators found bikini-clad employees selling more than just caffeinated drinks.

Fifty-two-year-old former stripper Carmela Panico is accused of money laundering and promoting prostitution at her coffee stands, where employees make tips by stripping for customers and performing sexual acts. The stands even include a stripper pole.

According to reports, the young women have been making between $15,000 to $30,000 a month -- one girl allegedly making just short of $90,000.

Employees were allowed to keep most of the tips, but were required to hand over a certain amount to Panico as rent. She would also fine her baristas, or "bare-istas," if they failed to wear high heels, have a sufficient tan, or wear make up.

Police started investigating the stands after the first opened in 2009, but had difficulty catching employees while engaging in lewd acts.

Apparently a sergeant in the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office was tipping off the girls whenever investigators were dropping by. In exchange, they would give him free coffee, amongst other things.

Despite all the illegal activity, Java Juggs has decent reviews on Yelp.
