Family of late shooting instructor feels sorry for girl, 9, who shot their dad

Gun Range Instructor's Daughter: 'He Was A Good Person'

NEW YORK (AP) -- The family of an Arizona shooting range instructor accidentally killed by a 9-year-old girl while he was teaching her to use an Uzi say they feel sorry for the child.

Instructor Charles Vacca was standing next to the girl on Monday at the Last Stop range in White Hills, Arizona, about 60 miles south of Las Vegas, when she squeezed the trigger. The recoil wrenched the Uzi upward, and the 39-year-old Vacca was fatally shot once in the head.

His daughter, 19-year-old Ashley, told NBC's "Today" show (http://nbcnews.to/1ospRJC ) that the family knows it was a tragic accident and something she'll have to live with.

Prosecutors say they will not file charges. The identities of the girl and her family have not been released.

Everyone is blaming the parents, how about the shooting range for even allowing it?

I think the parents are idiots ..I wouldn't let a 9 year old cut an onion Really ? 600 rounds a minute NO one needs to shoot an UZI no matter how old you are

The child has my sympathy. The parents do not. At least second-degree manslaughter charges should be filed against them.

A tragic mistake is a true statement. But what was even more tragic was this little girl's parents conceiving her. There used to be many decals when there was no PC police it went something like this: Stupid people shouldn't breed!!! It's still true. Here's some free advice in case you guys bring another soul into this world, a 9 yrs girl/boy should be learning how to shoot with a bee bee gun or a .22 single shot. Uzi's are for hunting humans, therefore belong in the hands of responsible ADULTS.

Whilst I feel sorry for the instructor and his family, I feel even worse for the little girl. The gun range should NEVER have allowed a child to shoot a fully automatic weapon, any more than her parents should have. But in the long run, this child was involved in something she will never be able to erase from her memory.

No guns = no shootings. The 2nd A'ers DO NOT CARE how many innocents are killed, how many hearts are broken, families destroyed, they just want their guns. For once, I'd love to hear them just be honest and admit it, omitting all the stupid justifications that are associated with their comments

I don't understand why was he teaching a 9 year old how to shoot a Uzi? This is not the walking dead! This is real life!
