Constitution sets sail for last time in 3 years

BOSTON (AP) - The world's oldest commissioned warship still afloat has set its sails for the last time before it heads to dry dock for a three-year repair project.

The historic warship the U.S.S. Constitution left its berth at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston on Friday morning. It set and struck three topsails and then fired a 21-gun salute off Castle Island in South Boston.

The Constitution will get underway for the final time before the repair job on Oct. 17 but won't set its sails at that time because they will have already been removed.

Constitution crew members have spent the past week training 150 U.S. Navy chief petty officers on sailing techniques utilized aboard Old Ironsides since the 1790s.

These were the days of wooden ships and IRON MEN. This is when Men were Men and women LOVED them. And it started at the top with GREAT leaders that loved America and what America represented. We need America back. We need to rid this country of the LEFT, the Communists and the Radical muslims. WE need to get rid of the Reeds, Policies and Obama types. PERIOD

I visited the ship on an elementary school field trip and again 35 years later on a visit to Boston. What a magnificent old warship and part of our history. Long may she sail.

Don't worry he'll issue an Exective Order to change the name. Maybe USS Soros.

When I was in the Navy on the U.S.S. Boston, I had a chance to go aboard the U.S.S. Constitution for a day. What a testiment to the Navy and the men who sailed her. It is just toally amazing and it makes you proud to be an American.

Too bad that so many Obama haters/Tea Partiers/KKK'ers have nothing to say about this great ship and American icon.
